Pulpit Flowers

Book of Rememberance

Throughout the world Jews remember their departed ones during the High Holy Days. Chicago Sinai Congregation observes this tradition by preparing an annual Book of Remembrance which is distributed during the Yizkor Service on Yom Kippur, Wednesday, September 23. We consider it equally appropriate to remember Jewish and non-Jewish departed loved ones at this season. To be included in the Book of Remembrance, requests must be received at the Temple office no later than Monday, July 27.

Call for Ushers

Please consider volunteering to join us as an usher for one or more of this year’s High Holy Days services. One of the best things about Sinai is that it is a warm, welcoming place, “A House of Prayer For All People.” During the High Holy Days ushers contribute to that warm and welcoming feeling. Also, ushering is a great way to meet people and to be a contributor to the success of our High Holy Days.

To volunteer please email Susan Solomon at ssolomon/at/chicagosinai.org.

Community Concerns

Throughout its history, Chicago Sinai Congregation and its leaders have embraced a commitment to participate in the betterment of the community and social action on behalf of the poor, the deserted, the oppressed and the hungry. From its abolitionist founders to the advocacy of gay, lesbian, and women’s rights today, Sinai members have made their voices heard and their efforts count as champions of unpopular causes.

The Sinai Community Concerns Fund makes contributions to organizations in our neighborhood, as well as nationally and internationally.

We urge you to contribute generously. Envelopes will be mailed with your Cards of Admission and will be available at all services during the High Holy Days. Your donation can be made by check or cash or online with a credit card.

Food Drive & Collections For Area Shelters

This year your help is urgently needed to provide food for the hungry in our community. The economy and cutbacks in the food supplied by the government’s emergency food programs have emptied the shelves of the local pantries.

Beginning on Tuesday, September 8, collection boxes will be in the Temple lobby for your donations. Collections will be accepted through Sunday, October 25. The food will be distributed to Vital Bridges and The Ark.
