Pull Up A Seat at a Sinai Table

What is a Sinai Table?

Looking for an opportunity to meet other Sinai members? How about time to talk about or learn something new?

From writing, to genealogy, to cooking and many others, we have many opportunities for you to sit, virtually (for now), with Sinai members.

This is a NO PRESSURE opportunity. If a “Table” doesn’t work for you, try another one. If you don’t see a Table you’re interested in joining, but have an idea for one you’d like to lead, let us know!

Let’s Talk…Current Events
There’s a lot going on in our world today. Come together to chat about this week’s/month’s top headlines from politics, to movies, and more.

Crafting Together
Many of us have picked up a new craft during the past year. We think it’s more fun to craft with other people. Bring your craft, we’ll troubleshoot together and share ideas and thoughts and have an opportunity to chat and catch up!

Join a conversation about race, privilege, and power in our own lives. Together we will reflect on how they affect each of us, the world around us, and the work we need to do to improve the world we live in.

Writing can be therapeutic, but also challenging. This table is reserved for folks interested in starting to write and those that have been writing for a while.

Look Who’s Cookin’
We will meet monthly to discuss new kitchen gadgets, cookbooks, techniques all while building our own cookbook of our favorite recipes.  When we are able to meet in person we can enjoy our delicious cooking together.

Curious about genealogy – want to know where to start? Amateur hobbyists can join some seasoned enthusiasts, discuss roadblocks and how they overcame them, share findings and more.

Rabbis’ Table
Once a month take a seat with on of our rabbis. Bring your questions for some great conversation.

Meet the Board
You’ve seen the names of our Board Members but have you met them? Join us once a month to chat with one of our Sinai Board Members.

Getting Real about Getting Older
We’re more than retirees and grandparents! We’re wise, traveled, fun, caring people, so let’s get together and share stories. Diversity of gender, age, Marital status, encouraged!

Antiracism Book Group
Every other month we meet to discuss a selected book. Past books have included: The Vanishing Half, Caste: The Origins of our Discontent, and How to be an Antiracist. This group is currently at capacity, but we are looking to start another one. If you are interested in learning more or participating you can still sign up.

Guided Meditation (Yoga Nidra)
All you have to do is find a quiet space, lie down or sit in a comfortable chair, close your eyes, and listen as you’re guided into a meditative state through breathwork and visualizations. No previous meditation experience necessary.
Sunday Schmooze
Every Sunday at 10AM
Grab a bagel and coffee and have a seat. It’s a great time to sit back, relax and reconnect with great conversation. We discuss anything and everything.

 Movie Buffs
First Thursday of the month | 6PM
Discuss today’s blockbusters led Zbigniew Banas, film critic extraordinaire.
*Note: there is a $15 fee to participate that goes directly to Mr. Banas.

Rosh Chodesh Women’s Gathering
Rosh Chodesh is the name for the first day of every month in the Hebrew calendar, marked by the birth of a new moon. Started by The Women of Sinai, this group is led by Ellie Bahrmasel, who helps us celebrate this holiday through special conversations that help us to bring in the new month.

Book Lovers
Second Tuesday of the month | 2:15PM
We discuss all different genres. Previous books we’ve discuss include: Go, Went, Gone, After the Party, There There, A Woman of No Importance, The Other Americans, Blowout, The Book of V, and many more.

Walk ‘n Talk
It’s time to get moving! Let’s walk around Chicago (masked, of course) while chatting with other congregants. Join us to walk at a comfortable pace while we connect with each other outdoors.

The “New” Millennials
Our goal is to bring a group of people together to build a close knit community, to explore the intricacies of the interfaith relationships and friendships and to learn more about Sinai practices! And to maybe get some food together when the pandemic is over!

What’s Next?
Calling all recent empty nesters or those in their 40s – 60s. Let’s get together and fill this new found time! From some fun social opportunities to good conversations, you’ll be glad you pulled up a seat at this table.

Panicking & Planning a Wedding during the Pandemic
Join us as we talk about the fun moments, scary moments and everything in between.  Discuss the endless wedding planning decisions. Ponder the moral/ethical implications to having a wedding now and how do we proceed?
