In so many ways, in just over a decade, Sinai's newest synagogue has become a recognized and beloved landmark for the Jewish community and the city itself. Whether for worship, religious school, preschool, or for a wedding, bar/bat mitzvah or funeral, this Temple is a most welcoming and inspirational "House of Prayer for all People."

A congregation, first and foremost, is its people, and this is certainly true of Sinai. I believe that what makes Sinai so inviting, even more than the beauty of our facilities, is the spirit and devotion of our members.

A synagogue also should be a living museum of Judaism. In spite of the exceptional beauty of our building, we still have far too many empty walls! Therefore, I would like to issue a challenge to our members. I would like for us to embark upon an effort to build a significant collection of art and Judaica in order more fully to express and celebrate the heritage of our Jewish people. Many of you have in your homes works of Jewish art by significant artists and sculptors. Some own historic pieces of Jewish ceremonial art. There are also those who may wish to celebrate a milestone event by donating a piece of Judaica that will become a permanent part of Sinai and a true gift for future generations. I invite you to consider making a gift of Judaica to the Temple.

I do need to point out that we have an art committee and a set of guidelines concerning such donations. These guidelines are printed below. Not every piece of Judaica or painting is of lasting significance or suitable for the Temple. I am certain that the art committee will exercise good judgment and also hope that our members will understand if a particular piece is not accepted. Together, I am confident that we will be able to create a Judaica collection that will be both lovely and significant, thereby fulfilling the Biblical adage: "Worship the Eternal One in the beauty of holiness." (Psalm 96)
